After being invited by Ass Professor Mehmet KÜLEKÇİ, MD the chief of ENT Department in Taksim Trauma Training and Research Hospital I gave a lecture on Lasers and their uses in Aesthetic Surgery with my senior resident Nilay Yogun,MD. on 5/12/2008. After giving information about the lasers technology I shared my own personal experiences with lasers. In the end of the lecture questions were asked and a good discussion was done. We continued our discussion in the traditional tea table. I was delighted and honored by Dr Kulkci’s kind invitation. We left with good intentions and wishes that this friendship will continue.

Although you had told me that the difference would be visible after 3 months, I can allready see the difference. I had tried fillers, botox and radiofrequency but they weren’t as helpful as this treatment. I‘d like to thank you once again.
Prof. Dr. Hülya AYDIN, My dear professor and mentor that had great contributions and influence in my career gave a lecture in our hospital on 3/21/2008. In her conference entitled ‘Breast Reconstruction’, she shared not only her great personal repertoire and experience in this topic but also her memories. Once again we were honored to welcome our very special guest.
In the ‘Medicine Day’ 3/14/2008- there was a meaningful ceremony in our hospital that also interested my self. Our chief of the Hospital Associate Professor Dr. Turan ASLAN gave a speech about the medicine day and he gave me a prize on behalf of my clinic for our scientific paper contributions. Department of Plastic Surgery has a very special position in our hospital with all it’s employees significant both for ethics and scientific studies. This was documented by this special prize. In addition, I was also given a plate for recently obtaining my ‘Associate Professor’s’ degree that made this special day even more special for me.
Dear Sef, I would like to thank you for the exquisite care and attention you gave me before, during and after my liposuction surgery. I was especially impressed with your caution, your conservative approach and your unwillingness to take needless risks. Also my appreciation extends to your aesthetic sense . Be assured that my hips are as even as when I departed Turkey two weeks ago. I am quite pleased that I chose cosmetic surgery in Turkey rather than in the USA.

A beautiful meeting was held in Barcelona by the American Laser Company ‘CUTERA’. The meeting was open to the users of the laser devices that I also owned welcomed over 80 plastic surgeons and dermatologists from all around Europe, Asia, and Africa. All the attendees shared their own experiences and exchanged their knowledge about the products. I was very happy to meet and discuss with physicians all around the world with this interactive conference. We also took steps to organize this conference in our country next year. This meeting not only improved my knowledge but also let me know that the new Cutera Xeo Device that I recently owned is being used by many physicians with better results compared with other versions of lasers that they had before.
After many surgeries that I performed on my patients from Germany, Canada, Belgium and Azerbaijan, I have operated on my first patient from the United States. I think the main reasons behind the foreign patients’ choices on Turkish Doctors are: world wide reputation of the good Turkish Plastic Surgeons using the latest technology, their reliability, their wide recognized contributions to medical literature and lower cost for medical expenditures despite the quality of patient care. I was very happy to see my patient well healed 10 days after a long aesthetic operation and returning to her home country without any complications.

I was the moderator in a panel in Bostanci at The Green Park Hotel on 11.06.2007. The title of the panel was the modern treatment of infections in burns. The spaekers were Prof. Heinz RODE from Cape Town University; Chris ROBERTS, MD from England and Çýnar YASTI,MD from Ankara Numune Hospital. The audience was composed of 40 general, pediatric and plastic surgeons and simultaneous translation was performed. The meeting ended after discussion in 3 hours. After the meeting we had a lunch and went on our conversations. We had a conversation with Dr Rode in German and I invited him and his German wife to Istanbul.
The first female resident that I trained in my career has graduated and became a specialist of plastic and reconstructive surgery. She succeded in her exam on 10.30.2007 that was done in Vakif Gurena Hospital and became my 28.th specialist. Among the jury there were Asc. Prof.Tayfun AKÖZ who is the charirman of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department in Kartal Lütfi Kýrdar Training Hospital, Prof. Necmettin KUTLU who is the chairman of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department in Okmeydani Training Hospital, Rafet KAPLAN, MD, who is the chief of the 2. General Surgery Department at our hospital and Asc. Prof. Orhan Gedikli who is the chief of ENT Department at our hospital. After this beautiful exam, we had a lunch in Armada Hotel and celebrated this event. We ended our meal after talking about University of Miami where Dr Deniz is planning to study in the near future.
I succeded in the Associate Professor Exam in Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic on 10.15.2007 which is the most important milestone in our profession. Among the jury there were Prof Sabri ACARTÜRK (Çukurova Univ.), Prof Ufuk EMEKLI (Ýstanbul Univ.), Prof Atilla ARINCI (Istanbul Univ.), Prof Osman LATÝFOÐLU (Gazi Univ.) ve Prof Ali GÜRLEK (Inönü Univ.). After the beautiful oral exam took an hour and 4 minutes, I was privilaged to be given the gown of the associate professors by my dear mentor Prof. Sabri ACARTÜRK . These were one of the most precious moments of my professional life. I would like to thank my mother Seviye, who was always there with her prayers; my father Nuri ( I am very happy to give them this joy when they are still healthy); my son Engin; my brother Hasan and his family, my Sister Sevnur and her family and my life partner Eser. I would also give my special thanks to Prof. Hülya AYDIN who has been the most valuable personality in my whole life and who has encouraged me to start for this degree, and supported me continuously. I would like to thank all the staff in Gureba Hospital . Id also like to thank all my friends that I might not remember the names but still are in my heart who shared this beautiful event with me.
We were honored to have MİLTON B. ARMSTRONG, Associate Professor MD from University of Miami Department of Plastic Surgery in İstanbul. He gave three nice lectures in the Symposium of ‘Lower Extremity Reconstructions’ organised by University of İstanbul, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in June 1-2, 2007 .One of my residents Deniz Dayicioglu,MD is currently being trained there while she is prepearing her thesis. I was honored to see Professor Armstrong announcing her name and described their study in the beginning of one of his presentations. I was delighted to have met Dr Armstrong who has a very friendly personality. I was more than happy to have him as a collegue as our guest here where we started to consider exchange residents and medical cooperation in the future. We said goodbye to him who went back to United States on 4 th of June,2007. We hope to see him back again soon.

We were honored to welcome Prof Özhan ÇELEBİLER, MD who is a faculty in Marmara University Department of Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 4th of May, 2007. He gave us a very nice lecture about ‘Lip Nose Deformities’ and shared his experiences of very rare facial cleft cases. We were able to listen to this very interesting conferance by Prof. Ö. ÇELEBİLER,MD who is among the pionering craniofacial surgeons in Turkey I would like to thank him again and wish him success in the future.
I’ve found the opportunity to meet Dr.Hakan ÖZCAN in 1992 in Şişli Etfal Hospital. My first contact with him was when he was one of my residents in Şişli Etfal Hospital.He has worked with us between 2002- 2006 in Vakıf Gureba Hospital as a senior surgeon and has been a very special member. He has always reflected grateness, dedication in plastic surgery as well as his wonderful personality. It’s for sure that he will achive new accompolishments and always has our support and encouragement. I’m excited and honored to see him in ‘Denizli’ his home land with success. I belive that he will continue his academic career as a ‘professor’ soon afterwards. Farewell dinner for assistant associate professor Hakan Ozcan was held in Kumkapı Sadra Restaurant with full participation of the plastic surgery clinic team. We have presented him a unique traditional silver plate for the memory of Vakıf Gureba Hospital Plastic Surgery Clinic after remembering good old days and spending a wonderful and entertaining evening on 3rd of November.
28 th National Plastic and Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Congress was held in Ankara between 20 and 23 September 2006. The meeting was held in Ankara Sheraton Hotel with participation of 450 members and has been one of the busiest congresses with great magnitude. The president of the congress was Prof. Dr. Abdullah KECİK who is the head of the department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department in Hacettepe University. All the senior surgeons and all our residents except two who had night calls participated in the congress. Representing our department , we presented 29 oral presentations and poster presentations. I’m proud to say that this has been a record for us which made us more than happy. In the end of the congress, an election was done for the new executive commity for the ‘Association of Plastic Surgeons in Turkey’. The commity included many of my professors and I was glad to see that Prof.Dr Lutfi Bas was selected as the president of the association. Among the members of the Ethics Commity, my dear professor Prof Dr Huyla Aydın’s selection inspired me.

Two of my residents in Vakıf Gureba Hospital Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic suceeded in the board exam and were given the rights to be specialists. After 6 years of residency period Op.Dr. Bülent GENÇ and Op.Dr. Yavuz HASPOLAT suceeded in the examination in front of the jury composed of Prof.Dr.Lütfi BAŞ, Prof.Dr. Necmettin KUTLU, head of our hospital Asc. Prof.Dr.Mustafa ŞAHİN and vice president of İstanbul Health Office Asc. Prof.Dr. Tülin KAYHAN. With my new specialist doctors, the number of residents that were trained in Vakıf Gureba Hospital Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to become specialists reached 10.
It has been 30 years since we graduated from Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty. We have never stopped keeping in touch with our friends since graduation. In the last 5 years we gathered together every year in a weekend in different cities. This year it was the city Mersin where we celebrated our 30th year anniversary. The meeting was arranged by Op.Dr. Faruk KÜÇÜKOĞLU who was working as a specialist of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Mersin. We stayed at Kilikya Hotel near Mersin Kızkalesi Castle, went to see the city and made a boat trip. Dr.Cenk BÜYÜKÜNAL, Dr.Evin BÜYÜKÜNAL, Dr. Zeki GÜZEL, Dr. Cevat ÇOLAKOĞLU, Dr.Osman BAYRAK, Dr.Yusuf BÜKEY, Dr. Olgun AKYÜZ, Dr.Neşe AĞAOĞULLARI, Dr.Naci KARAAĞAÇ, Dr.Rızkullah YAZIRLIOĞLU, Dr. Erol GÜNER, Dr. Nevzat DOĞAN, Dr.Meral YÜCE, Dr. Bayzar, Dr.Erol, Dr.Ökkeş and many other friends were with us . It was decided that the next year’s meeting would be held in Bursa.
8 th Annual meeting Vakif with special subject of microsurgery was held in Armada Hotel in 9 th of June,2006. In the first panel Prof. Edgar Biemer, Prof. Alfred Berger and Prof. Ayan Gülgönen who are pioneers of microsurgery in the world shared their great experiences with the audiance. Prof.Biemer`s resume was presented by his former student Dr. Cem ARI, Prof. Berger`s resume was presented by myself before the conference. The panel ended with a detailed discussion on the hot topic `total face and hand transplantation`. In memory of the day plates with silver engravings were given to speakers. Prof Biemer’s poster about World Football Championship beginnig the same day in Germany was unforgetable. After the lunch, Prof.Lütfi Baş, Prof.Türker Özkan, Prof.Hayati Durmaz, Prof.Murat Topalan and Op.Dr. Aydın Gözü the attending in our clinic gave their conferences. The discussions were excellent. Again memory plates were given to speakers.The conference was succesful without any technical problems. I gave my thanks to all colegues for their support and help throughout the organisation. My mentor Prof.Dr. Alfred BERGER who trained me about microsurgery and his wife Sigrid honoured me by accepting my invitation and coming to İstanbul. It was my pleasure to accomidate them and Prof. Edgar Biemer in İstanbul. We said goodbye to Prof. Biemer and Prof. Berger who will be the honourious president in World Plastic Surgery Congress in Germany in 2007 to meet there.
After the kind invitation of Hülya DAĞLI who is the president o f İSTANBUL BEYOĞLU INNER WHEEL Society, I gave a conference in St Joseph Club Building in Moda in April11th, 2006. The subject was `innovations in Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery`. This 1 hour meeting with a dinner organisation was a great opportunity to give information about plastic surgery. President Hülya Dağlı’s husband and my school mate Erdoğan DAĞLIı, Vakıf Gureba Hospital Physiotherapy Specialist Dr.Aylin REZVANİ and my new attending Op.Dr. Zekeriya KUL were among listeners.
Plastic Surgery speciality examination took place in our clinic in March 3rd,2006. My residents Dr. Zekeriya KUL and Dr. Aydın TURAN were given their titles after a succesful exam. After their achivements, the number of residents who became specialists after their training in my clinic became 8. The exam jury consisted of the head of Şişli Etfal Hospital Plastic Surgery Clinic Prof.Dr. Lütfi BAŞ, the head of Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital Plastic Surgery Clinic Prof.Dr. Adnan UZUNİSMAİL, the head of our hospital Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa ŞAHİN and the head of 1. Distinguished Collegues, The title of the 8 th meeting of Annual Vakif Symposium will be `Microsurgery yesterday and today`. We found the opportunity meet Dr.César with whom my resident Dr.Zekeriya KUL worked with in Brasil . He is one of the frontiers in plastic surgery in Brasil and has a private clinic .Apart from these he has also travelled two times around the world. He is 68 years old, with an exciting character and a life phylosophy. At the moment he is busy with writing book about `Peru` where he spent his childhood, `Hotels and airports` and apart from these on `Auricle reconstruction` which is his special area of interest. He kept on taking notes in Istanbul using his pen what he called `my computer`.

good discussion. I gave a pen to Dr.César with my name
engraved on it as a PC and a paper as the software to be his
memory gift which resulted in a laughter in the hall.
The congress was held in Konya Selcuk University Medical Faculty in 14 – 18 September, 2005. Prof. Dr. Nedim SAVACI who is the head of the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery in Konya Selcuk University Medical faculty was the president of the congress. Our clinic was represented by attendings Dr. Aydın GÖZÜ,Dr. Hakan ÖZCAN, our resident Dr. Yavuz HASPOLAT and our nurses Banu BAKİ and Mehtap ERCAN. Total of 10 presentations were accepted in the congress where Dr.Gözü and Dr.Özcan, gave the lectures succesfully. Apart from all it made me more than happy to see our nurses Banu and Mehtap (who is a third year student in İstanbul University) presenting their studies for the first time. Very knowledgable surgeons from USA were participating in the congress. . Especially R.GOLDWYN and S.HAMRA had great conferances. The social programme was quite satisfactory . A visit to Mevlana was amazing. It also had a special meaning for me since my mothers relatives were coming from Mevlevi(Çelebiler) descent.

congress certificate of attendance were given.
I presented a seminar titled ‘Aesthetic uses of Botulinum Toxin’ inJanuary 10th;2005 Monday after the kind invitation of Professor Doctor Zeki GÜZEL who is the head of Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Prof.Dr.Zeki GÜZEL, was a close classmate who I adored so much. We graduated from medical faculty together in 1976. My teacher Prof.Dr. Ali Nihat MINDIKOĞLU’s attendence to the seminar to support not only motivated but also pleased and honored me so much. Also my dear brother Prof.Dr. Muzaffer ALTINDAŞ, Prof.Dr. Oğuz ÇETİNKALE, Assoc. Prof.Dr.Yağmur AYDIN, Assoc.Dr. Akın YÜCEL and all clinic doctors and personel was in the hall. My resident Dr. Zekeriya KUL and Dr.Can ÖZTÜRK were there for technical assistance. First we went back for thirty years and had a glimpse of our Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty days with photographs. After that I presented my own techniques and experiences for botulimun toxin applications. Questions that were asked were good and settled a discussion platform. This discussion was followed by controversial issues that affect plastic surgeons such as medical aesthetics specialty, maxillofacial surgery by dentists, aesthetic rhinoplasty by ENT specialists and hair transplantation by some doctors. The meeting ended after photography.
26. National Plastic Surgery Congress took place in Ankara Bilkent Hotel between 21 and 25 September,2004 with contributions of specialists from abroad. Our clinic applied with 6 presentations and posters of Attending Assistant Op.Dr. Aydın GÖZÜ and Op.Dr. Tayfun TÜRKASLAN, Residents Dr. Zekeriya KUL, Dr. Yavuz HASPOLAT, Dr. Türker ÖZYİĞİT. This congress organised by The University of Ankara was completed succesfully.
The article about aesthetic application of Botulinum Toxin in wide and narrow foreheads is accepted by American Plastic Surgery for publication.
8th national congress of Turkish Aesthetic Society was held in İstanbul The Ritz Carlton Hotel between 18-20 June;2004 with international attendence. I had the opportunity to present my techniques of forehead and frowneye injections to a selected population of plastic surgeons in a panel titled the aesthetic applications of botulinum Toxin. The questions were good. Lipocyte transfers, breast reductions; and nasal aesthetics in cleft lip were other topics that were presented on behalf of our clinic by Dr.Aydın Gözü, Dr.Hakan Özcan, Dr.Tayfun Türkaslan and my resident Dr.Zekeriya Kul. The congress in Hotel RİTZ CARLTON was very concise and nicely arranged. Latest technology was used and my attending assistant Dr Aydin Gozu who was among the organising commity was specially honored by the president of the Society.
Invitation as a panelist for Aesthetic Surgery Congress between 17 and 29 june, organised by Turkish Society of Aesthetic; Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery pleased my team and me .I will present my contributions and experiences with botox applications. Currently I am in the excitement and preperation period. Two presentations that we worked on with Dr. Aydın GÖZÜ and Dr. Hakan ÖZCAN were also accepted. Apart from these; a study about fat transplantations that we performed with my resident Dr. Zekeriya KUL is accepted and will be presented by Dr.KUL.
Annual meeting of Vakif Gureba Meeting was held in Hotel Armada in 25th December 2003. Our special guests were Associate Professor Dr. Talal Munasifi with his daughter Lena from USA and Professor Dr. Saint-Cyr and his wife Michelle and two children. Recent bombings and terrorist attacks contributing to decreasing number of tourists coming to our country prior to arrival of our guests did not interfere with them and they came bravely even with their familes that was not only such a great pleasure for us but was also a message to other countries. We welcomed them in Çiragan Kempinski Hotel. Our symposium ended in success without any problems. The opening speeches were given by our second President of Turkish
Aesthetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Association Proffessor Dr Sıdıka Kurul and our head of The Hospital Associate Proffessor Dr Nedim Samancı. I also had the oppotunity to talk about our former collegues of our clinic. We shared our experience with Dr. Munasifi about Botulinum Toxin adminstrations. 25th Annual Congress of National Plastic and Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery was held in Samsun in October 14-17, 2003. We particiapted in this congress with attendent Dr. Tayfun TURKASLAN and residents Dr. Bülent GENÇ and Dr.Deniz DAYICIOĞLU. Our voyage went smoothly in our car with beautiful panaromic scenes. My former Resident, Assistant Proffessor Dr. Ethem Güneren working in 19 Mayis University Plastic Surgery Department welcomed us. In this congress we presented One oral and Two poster presentations. University Campus was as modern and excellent as Europe. The meeting ended in success.

- Scientific Referee Request : Scientific referee position in 'American Journal of Clinical Dermatology' Editorial Board was asked and accepted with honour. This scientific request being an honour for me as a Turkish Physician also all members of our clinic and Plastic Surgery Society.
" Recent Advences In Aesthetic Surgery " With the kind invitation of Honorable President of ‘Artists and Art Lovers Association’ Lerzan OKE , I gave a one hour conferance in ‘Advences In Plastic Surgery’ in 14th May, 2003. 35 distinguished guest in the audience in Pera Palas Conferance Hall asking questions for 1.5 hours showed the increasing interest on the subject. After the conferance memory plates, original oil paintings and flowers were given to Attending Dr. Hakan ÖZCAN and Resident Dr. Zekeriya KUL.
